God is searching for you. I had an epiphany one day after misplacing my fire stick tv remote. I searched all over my room for it. I checked under the bed and in my closet. Eventually, I took all the sheets off the bed, looked inside pillowcases, and even looked through clothes in my dresser drawers. I couldn’t rest until I found it. I looked several times in the same place. In one last effort, I decided to look under my bed one last time. I reached under the bed and rubbed my fingers across the carpet underneath. Can you believe I felt it in my hand? It was laying in the dark shadowy area under my bed. I instantly felt relief. I picked it up and started going around the house telling everyone about how I found the remote that I’d been looking for most of the day.
During my excitement, I started thinking about the parable of the missing coin in Luke 15. Starting in Luke chapter 15 verse 8, Jesus tells the parable of a woman who had ten silver coins and lost one. She looks all over her home by lighting candles and sweeping for this missing coin. Once it’s found, she rejoices with her friends and neighbors. Jesus lets us know that the same way this woman rejoices is how the angels of God rejoice over a sinner who repents.
In no way does my experience of the lost FireStick remote replace anything in scripture. I mentioned this because the parable of the lost coin became more relatable to me at that moment. The emotions I experienced were the anxiety of not finding something that belongs to me and the relief and excitement of finding the missing thing.
His Lost Sheep
God is searching for you. In the Bible, God is referred to as our shepherd and his people as sheep. The context used has a lot to do with when the bible was written but is still useful today because it shows the relationship dynamic between God and his people. He is searching for his people the way a shepherd will search for a sheep missing that belongs to his flock. Ezekiel chapter 34 talks about how God is our shepherd. I encourage you to read the entire chapter to gain a better understanding of how God promises peace and security to those under his care.
Why do we want God to be our shepherd?
We want to be under God’s care because he is sovereign. He is the ultimate authority. When we submit to God’s authority, we are entering into his Kingdom. Being under God’s authority allows for his protection, provision, and healing in areas of your life. God will fill in the areas of your life you don’t have the strength to overcome. God will fill in the gaps.
We become lost when we stray away from God’s principles and his design for our life. We won’t see transformation until we come to our senses, repent, and submit to the authority of God. When we are lost in the world we have accepted the world and its standards above what God has declared. How does a sheep stray away from the flock? Something else has their attention. What are you following that we should cut off and turn back from? If the creator who designed and set a purpose for you is not at the head of your life then what is?
